Overview of Hebrews: Relationship Dynamic
This is a study of first six chapters of Hebrews.  It teaches us how to be grounded in our faith.  This book provides some clear theology and teaching about our relationship with God through Jesus Christ, and the danger of thinking incorrectly about our salvation.  About 15 years ago I made the sketch on the back of this page to help me understand the dynamic of salvation in Jesus Christ and becoming stable in my faith.  I've discussed this with pastors from time to time to test it against their understanding.  Click the link above to learn more about this.

Hebrews Introduction

We all have ROOTS. Each of us is GROUNDED in some way to a set of values.  GROWTH that must begin with us.  Do you want to grow stronger in your faith, in your devotion to God?  God's word encourages us to grow strong in the Lord.

ROOTS / Direction
Hebrews 1:1-7, Sunday, January 27, 2013
Can you think of some advice you were given when you were young that continues to impact your thinking?  Perhaps this advice influenced the direction you took in life.  If so, bring to mind the person who gave it.

ROOTS / Stability
Hebrews Chapter 1, Sunday, February 3, 2013
"Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted" - (Col. 2:6-7).  We learned last week that Christ "upholds all things by the word of His power" (1:3).  What is the key to stable faith, to trust in God?

ANCHORED / Focus
Hebrews 2:1-4, Sunday, February 10, 2013
One nation, one marriage, one family under God.  How can this happen?  How can we stay focused on God?
Hebrews Lesson.03.pdf

ANCHORED / Position
Hebrews 2:5-13, Sunday, February 17, 2013
Where do you stand in the lineup in your family tree? Do you view others as ahead of you, with greater status? How about your spiritual roots; do others look to you as one who knows God and has His wisdom?
Hebrews Lesson 04.pdf

ANCHORED / Power
Hebrews 2:14-18, Sunday, February 24, 2013
Have you ever grabbed ahold of something to catch your balance only to find it was a moving object? What are the top three qualities you need in something that will anchor you?
Hebrews Lesson 05.pdf

FAITHFUL / Called
Hebrews 3:1-6, Sunday, March 10, 2013
Have you had the experience of receiving a special invitation to do something? I remember being accepted as an architecture student at Cal Poly SLO in 1968 after abandoning a mechanical engineering major in Long Beach. I was determined to succeed with this "call". What about you? What has motivated you to achieve your goals?

Hebrews Lesson.06.pdf

FAITHFUL / Response
Hebrews 3:7-19, Sunday, March 17, 2013
There are many contradictory voices in our world today. How do you determine which ones to listen to? What guards you from responding to an ungodly message?
Hebrews Lesson.07.pdf

RESOLVE / Release
Hebrews 4:1-9, Sunday, March 24, 2013
What does the expression “Give it up for God” mean to you?  There is a battle going on within you; who is winning?

Hebrews Lesson 08.pdf

RESOLVE / Receive
Hebrews 4:10-16, Sunday, April 7, 2013
I can be so intent on accomplishing a difficult task that I foolishly refuse help when it is offered to me.  For some reason I say, “Thanks, but I’m O.K.” even when I’m not.  Do you ever struggle with accepting help?  I’d be wise to put my pride aside and accept the gracious help of a friend when I’m in need.
Hebrews Lesson 09.pdf

HUMILITY / Teachable
Hebrews 5:1-7 Sunday, April 28, 2013
Think about an effective teacher in your life.  On a scale of 1 – 10, how humble were they?  What is the relationship between humility and effective teaching (learning) in your view?
Hebrews Lesson 10.pdf

HUMILITY / Obedience
Hebrews 5:1-7 Sunday, May 5, 2013
What would happen if parents chose to never discipline their children? Do you believe that discipline is necessary in order to develop character and obedience in children? Do you believe that there are absolutes that should be or must be taught and upheld in your family in order to produce responsible offspring?
Hebrews Lesson 11.pdf

GROWTH / Diligence
Hebrews 6:1-12 Sundays of May 12 & 26, 2013
What effect does diligence have in your life? “The best things are worth fighting for” – true? Is diligence necessary in order to produce true, lasting value?
