The WHY ? Question

When we face disappointments, hardships and tragedies, we want to know why we are facing them, and why if He indeed loves us God doesnt intervene to resolve them in the way we would like.  The Why, question is probably the most frequently asked question in the history of mankind.

There is nothing wrong with asking Why?  Some of the godliest people in the Bible did.  But instead of asking, Why? try asking What now?    Why? is a question borne of frustration; What now? is a question filled with expectation.  Why? anguishes over why a situation happened; What now? anticipates what God will do next.    Focusing on the what instead of the why has the potential to fill us with hope.  (From Vertically Inclined by Mary Kassian).

Questions

1.                      Think of a time in your life that you felt hopeless.  Looking back, was the situation really hopeless?  How did God intervene and bring about a solution, or peace, or a way of coping?

2.                      Do you have an area in your life that you have been asking the WHY question?  What would change if you asked, WHAT NOW?

3.                      Which particular scripture spoke to you today?  How can you incorporate it into your circumstances today in order to trust God and have more hope?

Psalm 27:13

I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the Living.

Prov. 23:17-18

Do not let your heart envy sinners,

But live in the fear of the Lord always.

Surely there is a future,

And your hope will not be cut off.

Isa. 40:28-31

Do you not know?  Have you not heard?

The everlasting God, the Lord, the creator of the ends of the earth

Does not become weary or tired.

His understanding is inscrutable.

He gives strength to the weary,

And to him who lacks might He increases power.

Though youths grow weary and tried,

And vigorous young men stumble badly,

Yet those who wait for the Lord

Will gain new strength;

They will mount up with wings like eagles,

They will run and not get tired,

They will walk and not become weary.

Isa. 43:18-19

Do not call to mind the former things,

Or ponder things of the past.

Behold, I will do something new,

Now it will spring forth;

Will you not be aware of it?

I will even make a roadway in the wilderness,

Rivers in the desert.

Rom. 5:2-5

through whom we have access through faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. How hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Rom. 15:13

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Eph. 1:18-23

I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe.  These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might

Eph. 2:4-7

But God being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He love us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (By grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in the heavenly places, in Christ Jesus, in order that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

Eph. 3:16-21

..that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man; so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.  Now to Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever.  Amen.

Heb. 6:19

This is the Hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil.
